The Galapagos Islands – Voted World’s Best Islands

The Galapagos Islands have been voted The World’s Best Islands by Travel and Time Magazine. It is the third time the Islands have received the honour this decade.

The Galapagos are famed for inhabiting a vast array of exotic creatures and many of the species are not encountered anywhere else in the world. Almost all of the animal species you will see on the islands arrived because they floated there on logs or beds of plants, or they were blown in.

This totally unique group of islands are located in the Pacific Ocean, 600 miles off the western coast of Ecuador. Due to being situated directly on the Equator, the air and water temperatures do not vary much throughout the year, making the Galapagos Islands the ideal year-round destination. For anyone interested in visiting the islands, there is really no better or worse time to visit, this is yet another reason why they have been voted world’s best islands.

Commenting on the popularity of the Islands, Heather Hatcher, Charter Broker from yacht brokerage Worth Avenue Yachts, said:

“The Galapagos Islands are one of the most unique destinations on this planet. A trip of a lifetime that will offer memories to be shared and passed down for generations. It is a truly one of a kind experience that should be on every adventurer and nature lover’s bucket list.”

The Islands present the opportunity to come face-to-face with some of the most unusual creatures in the world. Flamingos, iguanas and giant tortoises are just some of the exotic creatures that visitors to the Islands can except to see. The islands also offer visitors the opportunity to experience exotic sea life in a way that many have never experienced before.

Hatcher added: “The Islands are home to a spectacular display of marine life. It’s not uncommon for our clients to meet and get up-close and personal with penguins, hammerhead sharks and a whole host of other sea life as they explore the waters. Sometimes clients share the swim platform of their yacht with a sunbathing sea lion.”

The Galapagos Islands have also been named by Boat International as one of the top 7 places in the world to swim with sharks. Visiting the Galapagos Islands is said to engage holidaymakers every second of their stay and they find themselves always anticipating the next surprise around the corner.

Land excursions will bring you side by side with colourful friendly birds including blue-footed boobies and flamboyant flamingos. Prehistoric looking iguanas hang out like locals on the sidewalks and beaches.

Another reason these islands – teeming with vibrant flora and friendly fauna – have been named the World’s Best Islands and why they are at the top of so many people’s bucket lists is the fact that Charles Darwin’s visits and studies on the islands had a resounding impact on the formation of one of history’s most significant scientific discoveries, Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection. These Islands have to be seen to be believed.
